Hello, I am trying to make a floor length tunic for my Nihilus costume that I am attempting. The top will be like a normal tunic, but it will be floor length, and slightly open in front for ease of movement. THere will be samurai-like leg gaurds. What type pf pattern should I be looking for to create something like this? Thank you very much.

You probably don't want to extend the tunic all the way to the ground if you want to criss-cross it on top. You would end up with two layers of cloth in front of your legs. I would recommend either making an undertunic/robe/skirt for the bottom layer and then using a tunic pattern for the top.
Since you have a quasi-samurai look, you could also try to find hakama, which are a wide legged trouser that worn by some martial artists.

Thank you. I think I will go with the hakama for the bottom. Should I go w/ a divided one or and andon one (undivided at the leg) From wht Ive researched, it seems men can wear both.

Interesting. I guess it would depend on what you consider most important. To look more like the game..or the ease of movement, and ability.
I guess the Andon one would be closest...for looks. *Its been awhile since ive seen one...*
It sounds quite interesting.

Ok, Ive gone fabric shopping downtown today, and I bought about 15 ytds of fabric for my costume. I have patterns for the hakama tunic and cape. The One thing I have a question on is, how can I do his mantle? Ill make sure to post pictures of my progress as soon as I start.

It looks like a standard hooded cape. You should be able to find a pattern from Simplicity or one of the other big sewing companies. If that doesn't work, there are a bunch of places that sell capes (and patterns too) for Renaissance festivals and other historical re-enactments.
